Zoo Animal Baby Shower

This is a baby shower cake that I did over the weekend for a friend. The bottom tier is vanilla bean with vanilla buttercream frosting. The top tier is red velvet with cream cheese frosting. It was cool being able to use my airbrush machine for color instead of just a glitter shimmer. It adds such a richness to the color that you wouldn't be able to achieve otherwise. The animals are made of fondant and were a lot easier to make then I had expected.

Sparkle Birthday Cake Balls

For my beautiful stepmom's birthday we went to the spa. I thought cake balls would be the perfect treat to celebrate her birthday and have a cake to celebrate. The cake was lemon with cream cheese frosting with the purple sparkle sprinkles. They went perfectly with the day.

Zebra Purse

This was a surprise birthday cake for my two cousins who have late March birthdays. The family got together to celebrate Passover, so my stepmom and I thought it was a perfect time to celebrate their birthdays. They were so surprised! The cake is vanilla and fudge marble with chocolate fudge filling and cream cheese frosting.

Pearled Rose Cupcakes

My aunt, uncle, and three cousins were coming into town to visit from Minnesota. My aunt's one request was to be able to see and taste one of my creations. Living in Minnesota they only get to see my cakes and cupcakes on facebook or this blog. So, I decided I was going to try to make a rose cupcake. This is something I have been wanting to try for so long. I love how it turned out! I also got to test out my new airbrush machine, which was fantastic!! The airbrushed pearl color gives the cupcake a little shimmer that I absolutely love. The cake is lemon with a strawberry preserve buttercream frosting and the airbrushed pearl.

Rockstar Baby Shower Cake & Cupcake Tower

A dear friend of mine is having her second child. For her baby shower I made a guitar cake that that will match the bedding. The name in the stars reads "Tommy" but it is a little hard to see in the photos. The cake and cupcakes are vanilla and fudge marble cake with cream cheese frosting. The cupcake stand was also made by yours truly.

Jungle Baby Shower

I recently got an order for a half sheet cake for a baby shower. The invitations were a perfect match to the bedding for the new baby. The mother of the mother-to-be asked that the cake look like the invitations to match the theme. The cake was vanilla with custard filling and buttercream frosting. All of the accents are done with fondant.

Lil Rebel's First Birthday

For my friends Liz and Luke's sons first birthday, they had a Lil Rebel's theme. There were two kinds of cupcakes and a topper cake just for little Liam. The cupcakes were lemon with raspberry filling and lemon cream cheese frosting; and vanilla with chocolate mousse and buttercream frosting. The cake was chocolate with buttercream frosting. I am super happy with the way everything turned out, and of course, the final presentation on the cupcake tower.

Snickerdoodle Cupcakes

This weekend I wanted to test out a new recipe I received from a friend who is a snickerdoodle cookie fan. Since the cupcakes were not going to be served until the day after I made them, I opted out of the 7 minute frosting that the recipe called for and used a sweet butter frosting instead. While the sweet butter frosting was tasty, I will try the next batch with the 7 minute frosting to see the true difference. These will definitely be made again.

Peacock Birthday Cake

This is a Peacock birthday cake I did over the weekend. It was a rather intimidating order because the birthday girl is also a cake designer.. and a fantastic one at that. All of the accents are made with fondant except for the feathers, which are real. The bottom picture of the bows is the back of the cake. The cascading feathers down the side came out better than I had imagined.

Optimus Prime Transformers Birthday Cake

I recently had an order for a Transformers Optimus Prime birthday cake for a 5 year old. At first I had so many different ideas about what could be done, and ultimately I decided to go with a full body shaped cake. This entire creation is all cake and all edible. The cake was chocolate with a whipped vanilla marshmallow frosting. This cake was definitely a learning experience.. But all in all I am happy with the outcome.

Bridal Shower Cake Balls

Since I have become the dessert lady, I wanted to make something for a good friends bridal shower. The only thing was that I had to transport whatever I made on a 5-6 hour train ride down to San Diego. Cake balls were the perfect thought. These were made with lemon cake and cream cheese frosting and then colored chocolate candy coating. The theme of the bridal shower was Breakfast at Tiffany's. Once again, the cake balls were a huge hit. People have been telling me how much they crave them. It's always nice to hear that kind of thing.

Baby Shower Cake Balls

I have gotten a little behind on posting pictures of my creations lately. These were cake balls that I made for a friends baby shower. The color of the picture is not great.. the cake balls were a soft pink, not this weird salmon looking color the picture shows. The cake was strawberry cake with a cream cheese frosting and chocolate candy coating. I added some pearl sprinkles to add a little something to them. They were quite the hit. Cake balls/pops are the new thing right now. I have seen them done in so many different ways. It will be a fun and exciting new fad.

Father's Day Coffee Cake Muffins

For Father's Day I wanted to make something for my dad. The only issue is that my dad does not like sweets. So, instead I made him coffee cake muffins that were absolutely delicious.

I also made margarita cupcakes for my mom's boyfriend and his colleague. I have posted photos of those cupcakes in a prior post. They were delicious. They were the perfect amount of lime and tequila. Yum!

Dr. Deb's Graduation Cupcakes

A friend of mine graduated recently with her PhD. For her graduation extravaganza I made her two kinds of cupcakes. Red velvet with cream cheese frosting and limoncello with lemon curd filling and limoncello cream cheese frosting. The grad caps are made with fondant.

Athletic Training Graduation Cake

This weekend I had an order for a graduation cake for an Athletic Training major at CSUN. The cake is red velvet with cream cheese frosting. All of the accents are made with fondant, and the Athletic Training symbol front and center was hand painted on with some food coloring gel. On top of the cake there is an ice pack, bandaids, an ace bandage and two colors of kinesiotape.

Jenn's Bridal Shower Cookies

Another thing I did for my cousin's bridal shower was cookies for each guest when they left. They are sugar cookies decorated with royal icing and little fondant and pearl accents. I carried the undecorated cookies onto the plane as well. I was not as worried about their survival as I was with the cupcakes because I had made so many more than I needed. When I got to Colorado, I frosted and decorated the cookies. This was a new recipe, and I have to say it is one of the best sugar cookie recipes I have ever tasted. Success!!

Jenn's Bridal Shower Cupcakes

For my cousin Jenn's bridal shower, I made some cupcakes. The pictures to the left show an up close picture of the cupcakes and then the way that they were all set up at her shower. The cupcakes were vanilla with a vanilla buttercream frosting in hot pink, green and white. This was definitely an experience.

I had offered to make cupcakes for my cousins bridal shower. She lives in Colorado, I live in California. I had been thinking about what the best way to get cupcakes made and have as much social time as possible. So, I decided to bake the cupcakes at home in California and transport them on my carry on to Colorado. I packaged them up as tightly as I could and put them in my carry-on. I was impressed how well they held up. There were definitely a few that were too smooched together to use, but all in all the transportation was a success. The TSA lady at security had a good long laugh at me.

Easter Strawberry Champagne Cupcakes

For Easter dessert I decided to make strawberry mini cupcakes with champagne buttercream, chocolate ganache and champagne soaked strawberries. I layered them together in the champagne flutes. It was the perfect amount of sweet for dessert. They were incredible!

Birthday Limoncello Cupcakes

My step-mom has been dying to try my lemon cupcakes with lemon curd filling and lemon cream cheese frosting. So, for her and my Uncle's birthday celebration I decided to change it up a little and make Limoncello cupcakes with lemon curd filling and a limoncello buttercream. They turned out better than I could have imagined. They were definitely a little more exciting than a regular lemon cupcake.
